Honoring and preserving the heritage of YPT – welcoming new members and safeguarding our tribal lineage for future generations.
The Yerington Paiute Tribe Enrollment Department strengthens and serves our tribal community through essential administrative and cultural services: processing new enrollment applications, issuing official tribal identification cards, publishing the official YPT Newsletter, and helping plan and document important tribal events.
Membership Application
Apply for membership in the Yerington Paiute Tribe. Download, print, and return with the required documents and $10 fee.
Family Tree Form
Required with every membership application, and any time a change in family descendancy needs to be recorded.
Tribal ID Application
Get your original Tribal ID upon acceptance of membership (free), or request a replacement card ($10 fee).
Address Change Form
Keep your contact information current so you receive service updates and all election and voting information.
Relinquishment Form
For members wishing to relinquish membership. Must be notarized and returned with a $10 processing fee.
Release of Information
Required to release your enrollment records to an outside entity such as a school or medical facility. Contact our office for the form.
How to Apply
Applying for Membership
Return your completed application to the Enrollment Department (in person, or by mail to 171 Campbell Lane, Attention: Enrollment Department) with:
- A completed Family Tree document
- A current photo of the applicant facing forward, with no filters or editing, taken within the last 6 months
- An original or certified copy of the applicant birth certificate
- $10 fee paid by check or money order (cash accepted in person only – please do not mail cash)
Membership Eligibility
Under the Tribal Constitution, membership includes:
- Persons of Paiute Indian blood residing in the Smith and Mason Valleys and the Yerington Colony (at adoption of the Constitution), upon written application
- Any child born to a member of the Yerington Paiute Tribe
- By two-thirds Tribal Council vote: persons of one-quarter or more Paiute blood married to a member (upon relinquishing other tribal membership), and persons whose lineal ancestor appears on the official Indian census roll of the Smith and Mason Valleys of January 1, 1935, or any prior roll
FAQs
How much does a replacement ID card cost?
$10, paid by check or money order to the YPT Finance Department. If paying in person we also accept cash, but please do not mail cash.
Why does the enrollment process take time?
Expect around 90 days. Your application is reviewed (we will reach out if anything else is needed), then goes to the Enrollment Committee, and once approved there it goes to the Tribal Council for final approval.
